Metals are one of a bunch of collections your sim can complete in The Sims 4. Collecting metals is actually one of the two gateways into being able to work on the element collection.

How to Find Metals

Completing the Metal Collection
When your sims finish any collection in the game they are going to be awarded with a plaque that will commemorate this exciting time in your life.
When your sim finishes their metal collection they are going to be rewarded with The Magnum Ingot, a plaque with an image of a metal in the middle.
The plaques' description is as follows: 'The Magnum Ingot plaque refers to the rare, sensitive Magnum alloy created from mixing all the metals discovered in your collection. The Sims Geological Council, however, cautions against any sort of alloying done at home.'
Sending Your Metals to Geo Council
The metals that your sims collect in the game all contain different elements that you can get if you trade them in. Your sim can send them to the Geo Council which is going to cost §20.
The next day, your sim will get the element in their mailbox to help them finish the element collection. However, you will not get the metals back.
